Young drops 22 as Axemen sweep Memorial
WOLFVILLE, N.S. — Acadia used a dominant second quarter and hot perimeter shooting to defeat Memorial 98–88 on Saturday afternoon at Stu Aberdeen Court. The win moves the Axemen to 3–1.
Memorial led 25–21 after the first quarter, but Acadia answered with a 36–22 second frame to take control. The Axemen hit 13 three-pointers and finished with 27 assists against just six turnovers.
Gabe Davignon paced Acadia with 23 points, going a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line and adding seven rebounds and four assists. First-year guard Malko Young provided a major spark off the bench, knocking down seven threes for 22 points. Ryan Regault added 16 points and five assists, while Robbie Grant and Briawne Wilson each scored 10. Acadia's bench produced 39 points and the team closed the game at 40.6 per cent from long range.
Memorial's Norm Burry scored 19 points, with Jodick Moudiandambu adding 13 and Javian Downey posting 10 points and eight assists. The Sea-Hawks shot 43.4 per cent from the field and 37.5 per cent from three.
Acadia outscored Memorial 36–22 in the second quarter to lead 57–47 at halftime, then held firm in the fourth to seal the result.
