Axewomen secure goalkeeper Lauren MacEachern for 2026 season
Acadia has added strength between the posts, securing the commitment of goalkeeper Lauren MacEachern of Stratford, P.E.I., to the Axewomen soccer program ahead of the 2026 Atlantic University Sport season.
MacEachern arrives in Wolfville with an extensive résumé built on national championships, high-pressure tournament play, and consistent performance at the provincial level. The 5-foot-5 goalkeeper developed through PEIFC and Charlottetown Rural High School, establishing herself as one of the top young keepers in Atlantic Canada.
Her breakthrough came in 2024, when she helped capture the Canada Youth Cup and earned the Golden Glove award as the tournament’s top goalkeeper. MacEachern continued to build on that success with Team P.E.I., playing a key role in the program’s best-ever showing at the 2025 Canada Summer Games, where the team finished sixth nationally.
At the club level, MacEachern has been a steady presence on the national stage. She was part of PEIFC teams that earned silver medals at the Canadian championships in both 2022 and 2025. Following the 2025 tournament, she was recognized as a first-team all-star, one of only three players to repeat as a national silver medallist across those championship runs.
Head coach Danielle Cyr said MacEachern’s ability to perform in key moments stood out throughout the recruiting process.
“Lauren is an accomplished goalkeeper with a proven ability to perform in big moments,” Cyr said. “She played a key role in Team P.E.I.’s historic sixth-place finish at the Canada Games and has won two club national silver medals. Lauren is an exceptional shot stopper, reads the game well, and is composed and impactful in build-up play. She is driven, eager to grow and an excellent teammate. We’re excited to have Lauren join the Axewomen.”
MacEachern said Acadia’s balance of academics, athletics, and community made the decision an easy one.
“I loved the community spirit and atmosphere,” she said. “They have strong academic programs and a beautiful campus. I wanted to find a university that was away from home but not too far.”
She will study kinesiology and nutrition at Acadia.
