B.C. standout Sophie Lalli set to join Axewomen rugby

The Acadia Axewomen rugby program has added Sophie Lalli to its roster.

Lalli, a five-foot-five back from Surrey, B.C., joins Acadia after playing with École Salish Secondary, Langley Rugby Club and Fraser Valley’s provincial regional championship program.

She can play outside centre or scrumhalf and will study psychology at Acadia.

“I chose Acadia because I felt it was the best place for me to progress academically and athletically, as it was made clear student-athletes are supported,” said Lalli. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to join a successful program and I’m excited to grow as a player in a close-knit community.”

Lalli played for the Salish Wolves from 2022 to 2026. She helped the program place 10th in the province and was the team’s top try scorer during her final school season. She also handled kicking duties on conversions.

At the club level, Lalli played with Langley Rugby Club from 2023 to 2026. She helped the club place second in the Mainland competition and earned several individual honours. She was named most valuable player in 2026 and best back in 2025. She was also selected as an all-star at the provincial rugby sevens championships in 2026.

Lalli also competed with the Fraser Valley PRCs program, which placed fourth. She was named most improved player in 2024.

Her sevens experience includes competing in the elite division at Florida 7s, the Mexico Challenger as a co-captain and Stampede 7s in Calgary. She also toured New Zealand with the Bayside Sharks U18 team as a U16 player.

Lalli is scheduled to graduate from École Salish Secondary in 2026 before joining the Axewomen in Wolfville.
