Axewomen fall to Laval in consolation play; season concludes at nationals
VANCOUVER, B.C. — Acadia's run at the U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship ended Friday with a 41–7 loss to Laval in the consolation semifinal at Thunderbird Stadium.
Laval struck early and controlled the first half. The Rouge et Or scored five tries before the break to lead 31–0. They added two more in the opening minutes of the second half to extend the margin to 41–0.
Acadia answered in the 60th minute. Gabby Shaw finished a sustained spell of pressure for the Axewomen's lone try, and Sarah Gunn added the convert to make it 41–7. Olivia Savoie was named Acadia's player of the game.
The result closes Acadia's season at 5–4–0 overall, including a 4–2–0 conference record and an AUS silver medal.
