Axewomen fall to Queen’s in U SPORTS quarterfinal; turn focus to consolation semifinal
VANCOUVER, B.C. — Acadia opened the scoring but fell 90–10 to the No. 2–seeded Queen's Gaels in Wednesday's CGIS U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship quarterfinal at Thunderbird Stadium.
Samantha Reid touched down in the second minute to give the Axewomen an early 5–0 lead. Queen's answered with four straight tries to move in front 28–5 by the 26th minute. Sarah Williston added Acadia's second try at the half-hour mark, but the Gaels finished the first half with two late scores to lead 38–10 at the break.
Queen's controlled the second half with eight more tries and six conversions. Juliette Matsukubo was named Acadia's Nike Team Player of the Game.
The Axewomen move into the consolation bracket and will face Laval on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Pacific.
