Queen’s veteran Amy Hagman commits to Axewomen basketball
Former OUA and U SPORTS leader in three-point percentage joins Acadia
The Acadia Axewomen basketball program has added experience and leadership with the commitment of Orillia, Ont., native Amy Hagman for the upcoming Atlantic University Sport season.
Hagman, a 5’11 shooting guard/small forward, joins the Axewomen for her final year of eligibility after four seasons with Queen’s University. She will pursue a Master’s of Applied Kinesiology at Acadia.
During her time with the Queen’s Gaels, Hagman was part of one of the top programs in the Ontario University Athletics conference. The team posted strong records across her career, including seasons of 25-3 and 22-2, while capturing two OUA silver medals and a U SPORTS silver medal in 2024.
A reliable perimeter shooter, Hagman led both the OUA and U SPORTS in three-point percentage during the 2025-26 regular season, shooting 42.6 per cent from beyond the arc. Her offensive efficiency and ability to stretch the floor add another dimension to the Axewomen lineup.
Hagman has also been recognized for her leadership and contributions off the court. She is a two-time U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian and served as president of Queen’s Student-Athlete Leadership Council. She was also the recipient of the OUA Joy Bellinger Award, which recognizes outstanding service to sport and community involvement.
In addition to her university career, Hagman represented Team Ontario at the 2022 Canada Summer Games, where she served as team captain and helped the team earn a bronze medal.
Axewomen head coach Len Harvey said Hagman’s experience and character will make an immediate impact.
“We’re really excited about Amy coming to Acadia for her final year of eligibility,” said Harvey. “She’s a proven competitor from a strong, well-coached program at Queen’s. Above that though, Amy’s integrity, character, and leadership are among the highest level and she will be a fantastic addition to our group. “I know she will jump in with both feet into our local basketball community and will be great to have around our community initiatives. From our first call, I felt as though Amy understood Wolfville and Acadia, and I’m certain she will find a real sense of belonging here while pursuing her master’s degree.”
Hagman said the opportunity to join Acadia aligns with both her competitive goals and values.
“I am so excited about the opportunity to join the Acadia basketball program for the upcoming season,” she said. “Acadia stood out to me from the commitment of the coaches, athletes and support staff to keep pushing the program toward our goal of bringing a national championship back to Wolfville. “It inspired me to want to contribute as a new veteran to the program. Being from a small town, I know what it means to play for your community and I can’t wait to get onto the court.”
