Horton Griffins forward Isobel MacDonald has announced that she will be joining the Acadia Axewomen basketball team for the 2026-27 season.
MacDonald, a standout forward from Port Williams, brings a wealth of talent and a history of success to the Axewomen. Standing at 5’11, she has had a remarkable high school career at Horton High School under the guidance of Meghan MacLeod.
“Isobel is someone we have known for a long time as she grew up around the Axewomen,” said head coach Len Harvey. “We felt it was incredibly important to prioritize her recruitment for a number of reasons. She is exceptionally hard working and tough, a wonderful talent, but most importantly she is a rock-solid person who will not only be a top player for the Axewomen in the coming years, but I envision her being a leader and an incredibly impactful person within our team culture. We’re ecstatic to get a commitment from Isobel at this early time, and I can’t wait to coach her and have she and her family as part of our team.”
She helped lead the Griffins to a provincial championship in the 2023-24 season and a bronze medal finish in the 2022-23 season. MacDonald’s exceptional performance earned her the co-MVP award in 2023-24 and the coaches award in 2022-23.
MacDonald played for Basketball Nova Scotia’s U15 team in 2022, coached by Marissa Lindquist, where the team finished second at nationals. She continued with the U15 BNS team in 2023, when she was a co-captain, and achieved a sixth-place finish at nationals.
Additionally, MacDonald was a key player for the Dartmouth Celtics in the MBANS D1 U14 league, where the team won both the MBANS D1 and provincial D1 U14 championships.
"Living close to campus my whole life, I have had the opportunity to experience many exciting games at the Stu, where the positive energy and community support is unmatched,” she said. “I am so excited to join the Axewomen, and I hope to make meaningful contributions to the program. I am also confident that Acadia will provide me with the tools and opportunities to excel as a student-athlete. I have been very lucky to have amazing coaches who have fostered the love of basketball for me from when I started in Grade 2 up until now at Horton. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to develop my game with the athletes and coaching staff here at Acadia.”
The Axewomen basketball program are excited to watch MacDonald's journey unfold in her remaining time at Horton and look forward to her contributions to the team's success when she gets to Acadia.
