Orangeville Prep's Katie Firth commits to Axewomen for 2025-26
WOLFVILLE – Acadia Athletics has announced the addition of Katie Firth to the Acadia Axewomen basketball team as part of their 2025-26 recruitment class.
The 5’11 wing from Orangeville, Ont., brings extensive experience and accomplishments from her time with Orangeville Prep, Brampton Juel Prep and Orangeville District Secondary School.
Firth’s athletic resume includes being named team defensive player of the year in 2024 and earning academic achievement honours in both 2023 and 2024. She competed in prestigious events such as the Biosteel Futures Game in 2023 and the All-Canadian Next Ones Up Game in 2024. Firth’s Orangeville Prep team also secured second place in the Trillium League in 2024. In high school, she was MVP when her team won the CWOSSA championship in 2021.
Off the court, Firth exemplifies excellence in academics, making her an ideal addition to the Axewomen program. She plans to pursue a degree in bioscience while continuing her basketball career.
“Acadia immediately felt like home,” Firth said. “The team culture and sense of community within the university was something I knew I wanted to be a part of. I am beyond excited and grateful for the opportunity to play for Acadia, and I can’t wait to get on court with the team next season.”
Head coach Len Harvey is excited to welcome Firth to the Axewomen roster.
“We're very excited about Katie joining the team,” said Harvey. “She's a skilled and intelligent player who really understands how to play team basketball. She's been an integral piece of the growth of Orangeville Prep's girls programming and has great experience playing with and against high-level competition that will allow her to transition well to the U SPORTS level.
“Her defensive instincts and offensive intelligence will impact the team right away. We were very impressed with her throughout the recruiting process, and we're really looking forward to having the opportunity to coach her.”
The Axewomen community eagerly anticipates the energy, talent and leadership Firth will bring to the program.
