Axemen add international midfield talent Phin Ellison
Baylor School standout commits to Acadia for upcoming AUS season
The Acadia Axemen men’s soccer program has added an international midfield talent with the commitment of Phin Ellison for the upcoming Atlantic University Sport season.
Ellison, a 5'11 centre midfielder from George Town, Cayman Islands, will join the Axemen after competing at the high school and club levels in the United States and the Caribbean. He plans to study mathematics and statistics at Acadia.
Ellison recently played for Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he was a regular starter during the 2025 season. The team finished with a 9-7-3 record and advanced to the state quarterfinals in the TSSAA Division II-AA playoffs. Ellison appeared in 17 matches, scoring five goals and adding three assists from the midfield.
Prior to his time in Tennessee, Ellison developed with Academy SC in the Cayman Islands Youth League. He served as team captain in 2023 and helped lead the club to three league titles. The team also reached the silver division final at the 2023 Target USA Cup, an international youth tournament held in Minnesota.
Ellison said the opportunity to continue both his academic and athletic career at Acadia is something he has been working toward for years.
“It means a lot to me to commit to Acadia,” Ellison said. “Since I was young, playing collegiate soccer has always been a goal of mine, and to finally achieve that is really special. Acadia’s tight-knit community, coupled with its academic and athletic excellence, made it an easy choice.”
Axemen head coach Matt Holton said Ellison brings intelligence and strong technical ability to the midfield.
“Phin is an exciting prospect for our program,” said Holton. “He is a technical player with a high soccer IQ who reads the game well. In the classroom, he is a top student and demonstrates all the attributes that we look for in our student-athletes.”
Ellison said he is looking forward to working with the Axemen program and continuing his development at the university level.
“I can’t wait for the next few seasons playing under Coach Holton,” he said. “I hope to help the team succeed while continuing to grow as a player.”
