Axemen add OPDL Cup champion Braylon Rebelo
Whitecaps London standout reunites with club teammate at Acadia
The Acadia Axemen men’s soccer program has added depth to its midfield with the commitment of London, Ont., native Braylon Rebelo for the upcoming Atlantic University Sport season.
Rebelo, a 5'10 defensive midfielder, will join the Axemen after an accomplished youth career with Whitecaps London in the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL). He plans to study kinesiology at Acadia.
Rebelo spent five seasons competing in the OPDL, where he helped Whitecaps London capture the OPDL Cup and the Umbro Showcase title. The team also reached the Charity Shield semifinals during his time with the program. His U17 squad posted an impressive 11-1-5 record in league play.
Prior to his time in the OPDL, Rebelo developed through Whitecaps London’s Tier 1 program, where he served as a team captain across multiple seasons. His leadership and consistency in midfield have been key elements of his development.
Axemen head coach Matt Holton said Rebelo brings valuable experience and composure to the program.
“We look forward to having Braylon join the Acadia program in the fall,” said Holton. “He will join his club teammate, Dominic Cabral, from Whitecaps London as an OPDL Cup winner and brings experience of playing in big games. He is a technical player with a high IQ who will add depth to our midfield.”
Rebelo said committing to Acadia represents more than just a next step in his soccer career.
“Committing to Acadia is more than just picking a school,” he said. “It is choosing a standard and buying into a program and community. To become an Axeman is a promise of hard work, resilience, and heart every day, both on and off the field.”
