Former OHL forward Declan Waddick commits to Axemen hockey
Ontario native recorded 177 points across OHL and BCHL career
The Acadia Axemen hockey program has added proven offensive talent with the commitment of Lighthouse Cove, Ont., native Declan Waddick for the upcoming Atlantic University Sport season.
Waddick, a 5'10 left-shot forward, joins the Axemen after an extensive junior hockey career that included more than 250 games across the Ontario Hockey League and British Columbia Hockey League. He will study business at Acadia.
Over five seasons in the OHL, Waddick suited up for the Niagara IceDogs and Owen Sound Attack, appearing in 247 regular-season games. During that span, he recorded 63 goals and 62 assists for 125 points, establishing himself as a consistent offensive contributor.
Following his OHL career, Waddick joined the Spruce Grove Saints for the 2025-26 BCHL season. He quickly became one of the club's top offensive threats, scoring 25 goals and adding 27 assists for 52 points in 49 regular-season games.
His offensive production continued into the playoffs, where he recorded four points in four games, including two goals and two assists.
Acadia head coach Darren Burns said Waddick's offensive instincts and experience will be valuable additions to the Axemen lineup.
“Declan has been a proven offensive player throughout his career,” said Burns. “His excellent hockey sense, agility and quick release will be a big offensive boost for our team.”
Waddick said the opportunity to continue his hockey career while pursuing his education made Acadia an ideal fit.
“Going to school and playing hockey at Acadia means pushing myself to succeed both academically and athletically while being part of a close, competitive community,” he said.
Waddick brings a combination of offensive skill, experience and versatility to the Axemen roster. Having competed at two of Canada's highest levels of junior hockey, he arrives in Wolfville with a track record of producing offensively and contributing in key situations.
Waddick is the first officially announced recruit for the Axemen's 2026-27 recruiting class, with additional player commitments expected to be announced over the next month.
