Acadia defeated STFX 6-2 on Saturday night, using two power-play goals and a heavy shot volume to control the game. The Axemen finished with 44 shots and scored in every period.
Brady Burns led the way with two goals and three assists, including both power-play goals, and finished plus-five. Jordan Grill scored the game-winner and was plus-four. Kian Bell added a goal and an assist while winning six faceoffs and finishing plus-four. Goaltender Thomas Couture stopped 18 of 20 shots.
Acadia opened the scoring at 8:20 of the first period when Marc Boudreau finished a pass from Cam Whynot and Burns for his first goal of the season. Bell made it 2–0 at 11:09, converting a feed from Burns and Boudreau. StFX earned a power play shortly after, but Acadia's penalty kill held firm and the Axemen carried the two-goal lead into the intermission.
The Axemen added to their lead early in the second. Grill scored at 3:37 on a play set up by Roenick Jodoin and Burns to make it 3–0. StFX responded with back-to-back power-play goals. Logan O'Neil scored at 9:32, and Lucas Canning followed at 10:19, both assisted by Charlie Callaghan, to cut the lead to one.
Acadia regained control late in the period. Burns scored on a rush at 19:35, with Tyler Deline and Brayden Schmitt picking up the assists, sending the Axemen into the third with a 4–2 lead.
The Axemen pulled away in the final period. Zak Lavoie made it 5–2 at 7:53, finishing a play from Bailey Peach and Liam Kidney. Burns added his second goal of the night on the power play at 18:39, set up by Bell, to close out the scoring.
StFX's Canning and O'Neil each scored on the power play. Ryan McGuire won 17 of 30 faceoffs and added an assist. Patrick Leaver made 38 saves in goal, while Callaghan finished with two assists.
Acadia returns home next weekend to host UNB and UPEI.
