WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The Acadia Axemen and Dalhousie Tigers are set to participate in a summer exhibition series against the visiting University of Indianapolis Greyhounds. The series marks the first time Acadia and Dalhousie have played an exhibition game against an NCAA school.
The series begins Monday, August 14 when the Tigers host the Greyhounds at Dalplex in Halifax. Acadia will welcome them to the Valley the following evening, Tuesday, August 15 on Stu Aberdeen Court. Both games tip-off at 7:00pm.
Acadia's head coach Michael Leslie sees this as a very important opportunity for his team to get off to a great start this year and raise the profile of the AUS conference.
"We are excited to welcome the University of Indianapolis to Stu Aberdeen court and Acadia University," said Leslie. "This is a unique opportunity for us to compete against a very good NCAA team and basketball fans in the Valley will be treated to some exciting action in mid August and get a first look at the 2023 recruiting class, as well as returning players."
Dalhousie head coach Rick Plato expressed his excitement about hosting the Greyhounds. He hopes that this exhibition game will become an annual opportunity to compete against NCAA teams prior to the AUS season.
"We are looking forward to hosting the NCAA's University of Indianapolis on our home court," said Plato. "This will be our first opportunity to play an NCAA team and I hope that it will become a regular occurrence. We have been waiting for this type of challenge for some time now and I am confident the local basketball community will be treated to some great basketball action in August."
The University of Indianapolis is an NCAA Division II intercollegiate team. The Greyhounds compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
During the previous season, the Greyhounds had an impressive record, finishing first overall in the conference with a 17-3 record. They are considered a strong and competitive team from the GLVC conference.
Overall, the exhibition series presents a unique opportunity for Acadia and Dalhousie to test their skills against an NCAA Division II team and showcase their recruited talents in front of the local basketball community.
