Axemen add all-city kicker and punter Travis Uren
The Acadia Axemen football program has added a talented specialist to its roster with the commitment of Ottawa native Travis Uren for the upcoming Atlantic University Sport season.
Uren, a 6'4, 185-pound kicker and punter, joins the Axemen after a strong high school career with St. Francis Xavier Catholic High School. He plans to study kinesiology at Acadia.
One of the top specialists in the Ottawa region, Uren earned first-team all-city honours as both a kicker and punter during the 2025 season. He was also selected to participate in the Ottawa Football All-Star Game, recognizing his performance and consistency throughout the year.
Uren helped St. Francis Xavier capture the Bronze Cup championship and developed a reputation for his versatility in the kicking game. His average punt travelled 35 yards with a hang time of 3.5 seconds, while his kickoffs averaged 64 yards with a 3.7-second hang time. He also converted 70 per cent of his field-goal attempts.
His personal-best numbers highlight his potential. Uren has connected on a 61-yard field goal in training, recorded a 60-yard punt with a 4.6-second hang time, and produced an 85-yard kickoff with a 4.2-second hang time.
In addition to his high school experience, Uren has continued his development with the Cumberland Panthers of the Ontario Summer Football League, competing against some of the province's top young players.
Uren said Acadia's combination of academics, athletics and community made it the right fit for his future.
“Committing to Acadia means committing to growth, community, and opportunity,” he said.
Special teams often play a critical role in close games, and Uren's ability to contribute as both a kicker and punter gives the Axemen added flexibility heading into future AUS seasons.
