Downs joins Axemen football program

The Acadia Axemen are gaining a seasoned and respected leader in the secondary with the commitment of Will Downs, a 6'0, 180-pound defensive back from Edmonton.
Downs brings four years of CJFL experience with the Edmonton Wildcats, where he captained the team for three seasons. In 2024, he posted 32 tackles, six pass breakups, an interception and a fumble recovery—earning the Jay Meraw Award for the second time, recognizing his commitment to the Wildcats.
Before his junior career, Downs played at Jasper Place High School, where he also was a team captain and was honoured with both the Rebel Award and Most Valuable Offensive Back.

Set to study psychology at Acadia, Downs brings experience, leadership and a competitive mindset to the Axemen’s defensive unit as he transitions to play in the AUS.
