Janna Slevinsky
Athlete - Rugby
Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2025
This morning, we celebrate the remarkable career of Janna Slevinsky, a proud Axewoman whose impact on Acadia women’s rugby and beyond has been extraordinary.
Janna came to Wolfville from Edmonton, Alberta, in 2011, having never heard of Acadia until then head coach Matt Durant reached out. One quick search convinced her this was the right place—and it proved to be a perfect fit. She made an immediate impact, earning AUS all-star and U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian honours in both 2013 and 2014.
Among her fondest memories was helping the Axewomen achieve a milestone victory over long-dominant StFX, a moment she shared with teammates who had become like family. That spirit of resilience and teamwork would define her career.
After graduating, Janna moved on to the national stage. She joined Canada’s 15s program, played professionally in England, and embraced every challenge that came her way. In 2018, her hard work was recognized when she was named Rugby Canada’s Senior Women’s Player of the Year—one of the sport’s highest honours.
Janna credits her time at Acadia for setting her on that path: shaping her as an athlete, a professional, and a person. Now retired from rugby and thriving in her career as an occupational therapist, she reflects on Acadia as the place where she discovered who she wanted to become.
She hopes her induction inspires future Axewomen and Axemen to follow their passions, build meaningful relationships, and embrace the process of growth.
We are proud to welcome Janna Slevinsky into the Acadia Sports Hall of Fame—a champion, a leader, and a true example of what it means to wear the red and blue.
