Hoyt and Helmig named Acadia athletes of the week
WOLFVILLE – Bianca Helmig (basketball) and Peyton Hoyt (hockey) have been named the Acadia athletes of the week for the period ending November 10.
Helmig, a third-year business major, led the Axewomen in scoring over the weekend in Charlottetown as they left the island with a split. In Friday night’s 94-90 double-overtime loss to the Panthers she finished with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and a steal. She followed that with a game-high 22 points in their 67-56 victory over UPEI on Saturday. She also had seven rebounds, an assist and two steals in the win, Acadia’s first of the season.
Hoyt, a fourth-year community development student, had a pair of assists in Friday night’s 4-3 victory over the No. 8 ranked Moncton Aigles Bleus. He followed that with a goal in Saturday’s loss to the No. 1 ranked UNB REDS. With his three-point weekend he is now third on the Axemen in points and goals through 12 games.
Basketball will head to Newfoundland this weekend to face the Memorial Sea-Hawks, while hockey heads to UPEI this weekend to face the Panthers.
