Head Coach Len Harvey is entering his fourth season at the helm of the Axewomen program, and has helped guide the team to the AUS playoffs all 3 seasons of his tenure, a CIS/U Sports National #1 ranking, an AUS finals berth, and an AUS Championship last season. Harvey was named the Carolyn Savoy Memorial Award Winner for 2018 as the AUS Coach of the Year.

Harvey graduated from Acadia University in 2003 with a B.A, and completed his B.Ed. from C.B.U. in 2004. He went on to become a secondary school teacher for 8 years prior to taking over as Head Coach of the Mount Royal University Cougars. He led the MRU Cougars in Canada West competition for two seasons after the university joined the CIS in 2012.

Harvey was ecstatic to return to his alma mater and the AUS to take over the Axewomen basketball program. In his first season at the helm of the program, he helped guide them to a 16-4 regular season record, a 12 win improvement over the previous season, and a CIS Top 10 Ranking.

A native of Baddeck, N.S., Harvey is more than familiar with Nova Scotia basketball and Atlantic University Sport, and has an array of coaching experience at the provincial and university level.

Prior to taking over the Mount Royal University Cougars program in 2013, Harvey was an assistant coach with the Cape Breton University Capers women’s team from 2009-12 under head coach, Fabian MacKenzie. Harvey was also an assistant coach with the Cape Breton Capers men’s team from 2011-13. During his summers, Harvey was the head coach of various Basketball Nova Scotia provincial teams, culminating in him leading Nova Scotia’s women’s team at the 2013 Canada Games in Sherbrooke, QC.

As an assistant at Cape Breton University, Harvey was a part of 3 AUS Championships, and 1 CIS Bronze Medal.

Harvey and his wife, Kristen, have two young sons, Jackson, and Cameron.
