Acadia Adventure Camp Co-Instructor

Summary of Role:

The Acadia Adventure Camp Co-Instructor is responsible for:

  • Camper phone calls one week prior to the start of each camp
  • Shared curriculum development (Adventures on Bikes, Multisport, Geocache and Time Travel, Water Warriors, Survivor, Cooperative Games) and curriculum implementation. Curriculums must be presented two weeks prior to the start of each camp
  • Provide a FUN and inclusive environment for campers
  • Engage with campers and participate in all activities
  • Be prepared to implement low organizational games on the spot
  • Provide physical activity programming during the Art & Drama, Dance and Creative Movement as well as Run, Jump, Throw sessions
  • Activities should be age and ability appropriate with various progressions to allow each camper to succeed
  • Ensure camp policies and camper ratio’s are supported for a safe learning environment
  • Required to swim daily with campers
 

Senior Instructors and curriculums will be provided for Art & Drama, Run, Jump Throw and Dance and Creative Movement

Camp Description:

Age of Campers: varies based on the program 5-16

 

July 4 – July 8 Art & Drama/Run, Jump, Throw

July 11 – July 15 Adventures on Bikes

July 18 – 22 Multisport

July 25 – July 29 Geocache & Time Travel

August 2 – August 5 Dance and Creative Movement

August 8 – August 12 Water Warriors

August 15 – August 19 Survivor Camp

August 22 – August 26 Cooperative Games

Required Qualifications:

Certifications:

First Aid and CPR-C

Vulnerable Sector Check (completed prior to start date)

*note that it can take up to 3 weeks to have this completed

 

Experience:

Previous camp experience or experience working with youth is required

 

Training:

  • Must be available for mandatory training held on Saturday June 18, 2016 from 9am – 12pm (compensated at $10.60/hour)

The Art and Drama Instructor is responsible for:

  • Curriculum development and implementation, including an end of camp skit presented to the parents/guardians (curriculum must be submitted two weeks prior to start date)
  • Provide a fun, inclusive and creative environment for campers
  • Ensure camp policies and camper ratio’s are supported for a safe learning environment
  • Required to swim daily with campers
 

You will have an additional assistant instructor (not guaranteed to have art/drama experience).

Camp Description:

Age of Campers: 5-12

 

Come explore, create and express yourself! Campers will sketch, paint and work with pastels through out the week. The major art project will be designing the set for the performance the campers will be putting on, on the final day. Please bring a large shirt to protect your clothes. Campers will swim daily and will be provided with an Acadia Camp T-shirt.

The Dance and Creative Movement Instructor is responsible for:

  • Curriculum development and implementation, including an end of camp dance presented to the parents/guardians (curriculum must be submitted two weeks prior to start date)
  • Provide a fun, inclusive and creative environment for campers
  • Ensure camp policies and camper ratio’s are supported for a safe learning environment
  • Required to swim daily with campers
 

You will have an additional assistant instructor (not guaranteed to have dance experience).

Camp Description:

Age of Campers: 5-8, 9-12

 

Designed to introduce rhythm, balance and coordination, Campers will learn various dance genres wile exploring their own creative side! Campers will also partake in arts and crafts based on the themes of the day and will prepare for the end of the week show! We welcome all friends and family to join! Campers will swim daily and will receive an Acadia Camp t-shirt!

The Run, Jump, Throw Instructor is responsible for:

  • Activities should be age and ability appropriate with various progressions to allow each camper to succeed
  • Ensure camp policies and camper ratio’s are supported for a safe learning environment
  • Required to swim daily with campers
 

You will have an additional assistant instructor to support camper ratios.

Camp Description:

Age of Campers: 8-12, 13-16

 

Focused on fundamental movement skills, campers will explore running, jumping (running long jump, standing long jump, triple jump) and throwing activities (discus, shot put, javelin) through the various events involved in track and field. Campers will take part in a mini Heptathlon at the end of the week. Campers will swim daily and will be provided with an Acadia Camp t-shirt.
